RondaForum Education & Entrepreneurship

RondaForum offers a day of reflection and discussion on the present and future of education and entrepreneurship in Europe's south. It is organized by the Real Maestranza de Caballería de Ronda and FutureLab Europe.

Obsolete education system

In the Autum of 2012, the Director of the Real Maestranza invited the recipients of the Institution's scholarships and grants programme to exchange views on their professional expectations after finishing university. They identified an obsolete education system and a poor entrepreneurship culture as factors that are key in determining those expectations. RondaForum is born when the RMR decides to integrate FutureLab Europe into this process.

The reality of entrepreneurship is as cultural as it is economic: it can be present, to a greater or lesser extent, in the collective mentality of a society. Education, technology, incubators, public policy, finance, culture - these are all factors that help the creation of start-ups.

Location

The location of this forum is key. Europe's south is facing a critical situation: growing unemployment, lack of innovation, a gap between university and the labour market, as well as an economy too dependent on public subsidies. One can imagine that all this has caused the absence of a true, innovative entrepreneurship culture and this may be the case of Ronda, a town representative of this South, which can be traced from the Algarve to Thessaloniki.

Can an entrepreneurship culture be «created»? How can this be accomplished and who is to carry out this mission
